Hegemony & The Dominant Class

Similar to the dominant race of CRT, Marxism and Class theory deals with a dominant class. This class dominates and controls the media (the spread of information), and the means of production, which provide the economic capital for all other classes and individuals. As such, they also have control over institutions such as schools, and dictate the political and cultural values.

But how does one particular class gain dominance? Simply by consent. Marxism stresses that there is always some form of consent in "being dominated". How this consent is brought about is up to the class seeking power, and can thus combine physical and mental assault to achieve consent (Stillo, n.d.). It need not always be violent, but has been in the past. Antonio Gramsci and Pierre Bordieu have their own views on the matter.
